Young Innocent Eyes

Terri and I baby sat for her brother last night and part of today. We were watching their daughter Alicia who is six years old and their one year old son named Johnny. Terri was sitting in a chair in Ava's room reading a bedtime story to Alicia. The book was called " We Are Different We Are The Same. " While Terri was reading the book Alicia asked her what colour of skin will Ava have? Terri pointed out a picture with an arm that was light brown. When they got to the page with all the different styles of eyes Alicia then asked, What kind of eyes will Ava have? Terri pointed to the Asian eyes and all Alicia said was that Ava was going to have brown eyes. I just found it amazing that she didn't pick up on the different shape of eyes but only the different colour of eyes. It just really reminds me of how innocent children really are. It also reminded me of a story that we were told when we went to the adopt talk seminar in Barrie. One of the ladies holding the seminar told us of a time that she took her adoptive daughter from China to the doctor's office. The doctor was talking to the little girl about being of a Chinese origin. When the little girl and her mother left the doctor's office the little girl asked her mother if she had told the doctor that she was Chinese and the mother had said no that she hadn't. So the little girl asked how did the doctor know that she was Chinese? The mother said that the doctor knew that she was Chinese just by looking at her. The little girl just said " Oh okay." I wish that the whole world looked at each other through children's eyes. That way we would all be equal. There would be no difference from one persons appearance to another. Oh well, wishful thinking.
