Waiting For Ava

“But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, be patient! For it will surely take place. It will not be late by a single day.” Habakkuk 2:3

Ministry Letter of Approval

Terri and I just found out that our letter of approval from the Ministry of Ontario ran out in August of this year. We thought that it was good for two years but I guess not. They are apparently only good for eighteen months. We were saying aren't we lucky that we didn't receive a referral between August and now. I wish that our adoption agency had sent out notices to their clients that are close to the end of their Ministry letter of approval date. That would have been nice. Now we have to get ahold of our adoption practitioner and arrange an update to our home study. This includes new medicals for each of us, new local police checks for each of us. Our adoption practitioner has to come to our home to do an update. She has to call all of the people who wrote letters on our behalf and ask them if they still believe that we would be good parents. Will it ever end. Once the update to our home study is done it has to be sent away to the Ministry of Ontario for approval again. The new letter is good for an additional two years. Hopefully that will be long enough. If not I will probably be insane from all the emotional crap involved leading up to the actual adoption. Oh well, enough with the venting today.

Our letter of approval runs out in June 2008, I believe the paperwork is good for two years...at least that's what I was told by the agency.

Not only do we have to re-do our paperwork, but we also have to find a new social worker as ours has retired since we began the process.

That's one sure-fire way to know that this is taking FAR too long...

I hear ya!! Will this ever end?? Our letter doesn't expire until summer 08 but that just means more time and more $$. Our agency sent out this big e-mail about it and I thought you might want to read this paragraph...
"Any family whose Letter of Approval has already expired, or will expire prior to April 30th, 2008, can get an extension letter for six months. The extension letter will be dated from the date of expiration of your original letter. For example if your letter expires on April 27, 2008, you will qualify to receive an extension letter, which will be dated October 27, 2008"

I think yours should be good until Feb 08, but then it would have to be re-done anyways I guess. Just more hassel for something that I swear seems to never get any closer. Okay now I am ranting....sorry!
